What is .dz?
A little context on Algeria: the capital is Algiers, the main language is Arabic, the currency is the Algerian dinar (DZD) and the international dialing code is +213.
Next door on the map, you'll find .tn for Tunisia, .ly for Libya, .ne for Niger, .mr for Mauritania, .ml for Mali and .ma for Morocco.
IANA lists CERIST as the manager of .dz, with an address in Algeria. The registry's website is http://www.nic.dz. ccTLD managers set their own policies — who can register, which second-level names exist, pricing to registrars — so those rules differ from country to country.
Under the hood, the root zone points to 6 name servers for .dz, 5 of them reachable over IPv6. The delegation is DNSSEC-signed, so resolvers can verify that answers for .dz haven't been tampered with on the way. Registration data is published over WHOIS (the WHOIS server is whois.nic.dz).
Algeria also has another country-code domain in the root zone: .الجزائر (Arabic).

It depends on CERIST's policy. Some ccTLDs are open to anyone in the world, while others require a local address, company or trademark. Check the registry (http://www.nic.dz) or an accredited registrar before you buy.
Is .dz DNSSEC-signed?
